Challenge

The goal was to provide regular updates to all staff globally on business priorities and initiatives on a quarterly basis. The main challenge was supplying relevant content to a diverse workforce that did not have access to a central and globally accessible communications platform.

Solution

Conceptualised, wrote and launched a 12-article microsite giving all offices secure access through IP address whitelisting on the company’s subdomain and consistently achieved a 26% readership figure in the first day of launch, with each user reading an average of four articles.

Established an editorial content plan with quarterly meetings with the company Director to agree on themes against business priorities and identify contributors for each article.

We ran a competition to name the newsletter to create a buzz for the launch. We received 148 entries and a global vote lead to "The Pulse" as the winning name.

Grew momentum by evolving the content, format and promotional activity of every edition, based on metrics and face-to-face feedback sessions.

Learnings

Start small and let the content speak for itself. Each article had a few clear messages and gave readers the basic information they needed; to get involved and play their part.

Mix business with pleasure. The editorial plan contained strategy, business and people updates and interviews.

Used feedback and metrics to identify "What’s the one thing we’re going to do better this time round?" which kept each edition fresh and relevant.
